Scope

‍Our project aims to create a product system that moderates the use of digital technology and develops lacking social behavior in children age 6– 9 years.

Background

Children are getting into digital technology at a very early age. Generally parents allow their kids to use digital device since 2 years old. Researches shows that children nowadays are spending a lot more time on the screen than the recommend.

What's the Problem?

If they spend too much time on digital devices, they do not have enough time to experience the real world. If they missed the stage where they should developing their social behaviors, they will lack of social ability which is hard to make it up. Especially for the kids from 6-9. In this stage, they are starting to have cooperative play. They need to spend a great amount of time with their best friends and developing the social and cooperative skills.

We conducted researches both with parents and kids.

For the parents research, we have several in-depth interviews. The parents showed their concerned about how hard it is to moderate the use of digital devices for their kids. In one hand, they need to give phones to their kids because of safety issue. On the other hand, they worried about the negative influence bu the digital devices like they are lack of social ability in the real world communication and they are easy to be mean and rude during the virtual social activities.

‍For the activities we did with kids, we want to know what kind of colors,shapes and characters will be fit to develop into kids products. We also find that kids are much more creative than adults. The best way of play always created by kids.

Define

By analyzing the research results and opportunities we found. We created several frameworks to show the system we want to create and how we satisfied both parents' and kids' needs.

How to Play
BOBOT encourage kids to play together and let kids to create their new ways to play it. The more friends kids have, the more fun they have.

How to Wear
Kids are a lot more easier to forget things. We create different ways for kids to bring BOBOT with them. There is also a SOS button in case of dangerous things happens.

In this scenario, parents could receive the report about which friend of their kids is playing now and seeking for kids to play together. They can send this massage to their kid through BOBOT. BOBOT will encourage kids to play with their friends outside together.

While the kids is playing outside, parents could track their location by BOBOT. They can setting safe area for kids to play. Once the kids is out of safety zone or BOBOT is far away from kids. Parents will receive the alert. At the same time, parents can send the location information to the police immediately just by one click.
